Words Beats & Life Launches Mural Opportunity for Ward 7 Creatives
Washington, DC’s Ward 7 is set to see new bursts of color and creativity this summer as Words Beats & Life opens applications for two local muralists to bring fresh public art to the community.
As part of a Summer 2026 initiative, the organization will select two artists who live in Ward 7 to design and produce separate murals that reflect the neighborhood’s culture, history, and energy. The opportunity is specifically reserved for Ward 7 residents, with proof of residency required as part of the application process.
The project is supported by funding from the DC Office of Planning through its Ward 7 Public Space Activation Grant. This initiative is designed to celebrate and amplify the area’s vibrant identity by investing in creative placemaking. By partnering with local artists, businesses, and cultural organizations, the grant aims to draw more visitors to Ward 7’s commercial corridors, parks, and shared spaces.
Murals have long served as powerful storytelling tools in DC, and this project continues that tradition—creating visual landmarks that not only beautify spaces but also reflect the voices of the community itself.
Artists interested in applying should be prepared to submit all required materials and verify their Ward 7 residency. The deadline to apply is May 15, 2026, giving local creatives a limited window to take part in this opportunity to leave a lasting mark on their neighborhood.
For Ward 7 artists, it’s more than a commission—it’s a chance to shape the visual identity of the community and contribute to a growing movement that puts local creativity front and center.
