Ride for Change: Ward 8 Community Advocacy Ride Returns May 16

A unique opportunity to explore, connect, and advocate is rolling into Southeast DC this May. On Saturday, May 16, Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA), DC YIMBYs, and the Ward 8 Bike Alliance are teaming up to host a Ward 8 community-advocacy bike ride that blends movement with meaningful conversation.

The ride will kick off at 1:30 PM from the Congress Heights Metro station, guiding participants through a curated route that highlights both recently redeveloped sites and areas poised for future growth. Often described as one of DC’s most underinvested wards, Ward 8 is undergoing important shifts—and this ride offers a firsthand look at the changes shaping the community.

Covering approximately 9 miles at a casual, no-drop pace, the ride is designed to be accessible and welcoming to cyclists of varying experience levels. Along the way, riders can expect scenic views, local insights, and opportunities to engage with fellow residents and advocates who are passionate about equitable development and improved infrastructure.

The journey will conclude at the lively Anacostia River Festival, taking place from 2 PM to 6 PM, where participants can continue the day with music, activities, and community celebration along the waterfront.

More than just a bike ride, this event serves as a moving conversation about investment, accessibility, and the future of Ward 8. Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist or simply curious about the neighborhood’s evolution, it’s a chance to experience the area in a new way—on two wheels and in good company.

Participants are encouraged to RSVP in advance to secure their spot and stay updated on event details.
