Ward 8 Recreation Update: Ketcham Gym Closed for Floor Repairs

Ward 8 residents who use the gym at the Anacostia @ Ketcham Recreation Center will have to wait a little longer before returning to the facility.

The DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) and the Department of General Services (DGS) have announced that the gym at Anacostia @ Ketcham Recreation Center, located at 1929 15th Street SE, remains closed while repairs to the gym floor continue.

According to the agencies, the closure follows the discovery of warping in the gym floor. An investigation determined that moisture caused by incorrect heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) settings was responsible for the damage.

Officials say the HVAC issue has since been corrected, and the necessary floor repairs are being completed under warranty.

The work is expected to be completed by mid-November 2026.

Recreation Center Remains Open

While the gym is temporarily unavailable, the rest of the Anacostia @ Ketcham Recreation Center remains open to the public.

Residents are encouraged to explore other programs and activities offered at the facility while repairs are underway.

Information about available programs and registration opportunities can be found through DPR's online registration portal.
