Up to $150,000 Available to Bring New Public Art to DC Neighborhoods
If you've ever looked at a blank wall, an empty lot, or an overlooked public space and thought, "This could use some art," here's an opportunity worth checking out.
The DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities (CAH) is now accepting applications for its FY27 Public Art Building Communities (PABC) Grant Program. The program provides funding for artists, nonprofit organizations, and Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) to create new public art projects throughout Washington, DC.
Funding awards are available for both temporary and permanent public art projects, including murals, sculptures, mosaics, artistic streetscapes, outdoor installations, custom benches, landscape art projects, and more.
Grant awards include:
Up to $75,000 for individual artists
Up to $125,000 for organizations
Up to $150,000 for Business Improvement Districts (BIDs)
Public art can do more than beautify a space. It can tell a community's story, celebrate local culture, honor neighborhood history, and create gathering places for residents. With so much creative talent across DC, this funding could help bring some exciting new projects to life.
Projects must be installed in outdoor locations that are free and accessible to the public. Permanent projects are expected to remain in place for more than two years, while temporary projects must include a plan for eventual removal.
The application deadline is Monday, July 27, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
Whether you're an artist with a vision, a community organization looking to activate public space, or a neighborhood group interested in creating something lasting for the community, this may be a great opportunity to secure funding.
