July 18 | Free Graffiti Art Workshop with Luis Del Valle
Luis Del Valle
Ever wanted to create graffiti-inspired art but didn't know where to start? Here's your chance to learn from one of the DMV's own.
On Saturday, July 18, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the Anacostia Community Museum is hosting a free, hands-on Graffiti Art Workshop led by award-winning artist Luis Del Valle. Whether you've never picked up a paintbrush or you've been creating art for years, this workshop is all about having fun, expressing yourself, and trying something new.
You'll explore the fascinating history of graffiti and hip-hop culture before diving into techniques used by street artists, including bold lettering, clean lines, colorful layering, splatter effects, and eye-catching compositions. Then it's your turn to put those skills to work as you create your own graffiti-inspired painting on canvas to take home.
But this workshop is about more than making cool art. Participants will be encouraged to use their creativity to share positive messages of love, hope, and community while discovering how color and design can tell powerful stories.
Leading the workshop is Luis Peralta Del Valle, whose artistic journey began at just 13 years old painting graffiti murals across Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia. Since then, he's built an award-winning career that blends the energy of street art with the techniques of fine art, making him the perfect guide for this unique experience.
The workshop is recommended for ages 8 and up, making it a great weekend activity for kids, teens, adults, and families looking to get creative together.
Admission is free, but space is limited, so be sure to reserve your spot in advance.
🎨 Come ready to experiment, get inspired, and leave with a one-of-a-kind piece of art—and maybe even discover your inner graffiti artist along the way!
