July 11 | Free Gardening Event for Youth and Families

Families with young nature lovers are invited to spend a Saturday morning planting, learning, and connecting with their community during Growing Community: How Does Our Garden Grow?, a free hands-on gardening workshop hosted by the Smithsonian's Anacostia Community Museum.

The event will take place on Saturday, July 11, from 10 a.m. to noon and is designed for children ages 6 to 15 and their families.

Participants will learn the basics of gardening by planting seeds and discovering how to care for them as they grow through the changing seasons. Along the way, children will gain a greater appreciation for nature while exploring the important role gardens play in strengthening communities and supporting local green spaces.

The workshop is part of the museum's ongoing effort to inspire the next generation of environmental stewards and encourage young gardeners to continue building their skills through future programs.

Parents and caregivers are encouraged to join in the fun. All minors must be accompanied by an adult during garden activities.

Whether your child is planting their very first seed or already loves spending time outdoors, this free workshop offers a fun and educational opportunity to dig in, learn something new, and help grow a greener community. 🌿
