In Memoriam: Honoring Retired MPD EOD Canine Tiger
The Metropolitan Police Department is mourning the loss of retired Explosive Ordnance Detection (EOD) Canine Tiger, a dedicated public servant who faithfully protected the District of Columbia for nine years.
Tiger joined MPD in 2016 and quickly became a certified explosive detection canine, playing a vital role in public safety efforts across the city. Over the course of his career, he completed more than 400 deployments, supporting countless operations and helping keep residents, visitors, and officers safe.
Beyond his impressive service record, Tiger was beloved for his connection with the community. He was widely recognized for his outreach work and was featured in National Geographic Kids’ “Doggy Defender: Tiger the Police Dog,” inspiring young readers and highlighting the important role of police canines.
After retiring in April 2025, Tiger spent his final months surrounded by love and care with his handler, retired Officer Aida Rodriguez.
Tiger’s legacy is one of loyalty, courage, and service. His impact will be felt long beyond his years, leaving a lasting paw print on the department and the city he proudly served.
