Free Overnight Camp for DC Youth—Lottery Opens April 27

Families in Washington, DC looking for summer options for kids ages 8–13 have a standout opportunity this year. Camp Riverview, a free overnight sleepaway camp located in scenic Scotland (Maryland!) is opening its doors once again—with a new lottery system designed to give more families a fair shot at securing a spot.

Open exclusively to DC residents, Camp Riverview offers a full week of outdoor adventure at no cost. Campers can look forward to activities like ATV riding through wooded trails, fishing excursions on the Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay, crabbing, pedal boating, wildlife encounters, and plenty of water-based fun.

This year, instead of first-come, first-served registration, families will enter a lottery system:

  • Session I: June 22–26

  • Session II: July 6–10

  • Session III: August 3–7

  • Lottery Opens: Monday, April 27

  • Lottery Closes: Monday, May 4

The shift to a lottery aims to expand access and ensure more equitable opportunities for DC youth to experience a summer getaway filled with learning, exploration, and fun.
