The Advoc8te Is Taking a Health Day: Go Play in the Archives

My Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever (RMSF) & POTS are particularly kicking my tail today — or, more specifically, the treatment is kicking my tail.

Treating this thing means taking a whole lot of medication to manage both the infection and the symptoms that have come along for the ride. One of those medications is doxycycline, which makes me extremely tired. Pair that with some pretty serious anemia — more on that in Part 3 of my health journey, coming soon — and some days my energy simply does not cooperate with my to-do list.

And if you know me, you know the to-do list is ALWAYS to-doing. 😂

Most days I push through as best I can, especially when there’s a big workload — which, let's face it, is basically every day around here. But today my body has made an executive decision on my behalf.

So, I’m calling it a short day for Congress Heights on the Rise.

But that doesn’t mean there’s nothing to read!

Welcome to 18 Years of the CHoTR Archives!

One of the coolest things about writing a neighborhood blog for 18 years is realizing that somewhere along the way, the blog became a history book.

There are thousands of posts documenting people, places, businesses, development projects, community fights, celebrations, openings, closings, ideas that took off, ideas that fizzled, and plenty of moments that might make longtime readers say, “OMG, I forgot all about that!”

For newer readers, there’s an entirely different experience waiting for you. You may discover something about Ward 7 or Ward 8 that you never knew happened.

So while I take my doxycycline, curl up somewhere and try to convince myself that resting is actually productive, I’m sending y’all into the archives.

If I Were You, I’d Start Here…

Use the “Search” field at the top of the website and begin exploring. I would start with any of these:

LUMEN8ANACOSTIA
If you weren't around for LUMEN8ANACOSTIA, you've got some reading to do. This one is absolutely worth going down the rabbit hole.

Uniontown Bar & Grill
Ohhhhh, Uniontown. Longtime Anacostia folks already know. New folks? Go search. I'll wait.

Big Chair Coffee
Another one that deserves a trip through the CHoTR time machine. Search the posts and see a piece of Anacostia history unfold.

And Now, Anacostia
This one isn't just about a project or a place. It's also part of the story of the early east-of-the-river blogging community and the people who were documenting our neighborhoods long before everybody suddenly discovered how interesting Ward 7 and Ward 8 were.

And here's one important tip:

CLICK INTO THE POSTS.

Some older posts won't show you everything in the search results or archive pages. You have to actually open them to see the photos.

And I promise you, the photos are worth it.

Some will bring back memories. Some may teach you something you didn't know. Some might have you saying, “Wait...THAT used to be there?!”

That's the beauty of having 18 years of this community documented in one place.

So that's your CHoTR assignment for today: go explore.

I'm going to take my own assignment from my doctors and rest.

See y'all when my energy bar gets out of the red. ❤️
