Your Neighborhood, Your Money: What the FY25 OANC Report Means for Residents
The Office of Advisory Neighborhood Commissions (OANC) released its FY25 Annual Report on December 8, 2025, offering an important look at the role, resources, and responsibilities of DC’s Advisory Neighborhood Commissions (ANCs). As the official voice of neighborhoods across the District, ANCs advise the DC government on issues that directly shape daily life—from zoning and development to public safety, transportation, and community services.
The report also provides valuable insight into how ANCs are funded and managed. In FY25, the budget approved by the Mayor and DC Council for Advisory Neighborhood Commissions remained unchanged from FY24, totaling $915,688. This funding was distributed equitably across all ANCs on a per-capita basis, with $1.327 allocated per District resident based on the 2020 Census (see Appendix A for the ANC Allotment Schedule).
Why does this matter? Because residents deserve to understand the financial health of their ANC and how well it adheres to District laws governing transparency, reporting, and responsible use of public funds. The annual report is a key accountability tool—helping residents see not just what their ANC advocates for, but how it operates, manages taxpayer dollars, and follows the rules designed to protect public trust. Knowing this empowers residents to engage more meaningfully, ask informed questions, and ensure their neighborhood representation is both effective and accountable.
