Traffic Fatality | Luis Alberto Cespedes-Corrales, 27, on I-295

The Metropolitan Police Department's (MPD) Major Crash Investigations Unit is investigating a fatal crash that occurred last Friday on I-295.

On Friday, April 3, 2026, at approximately 7:44 p.m., Seventh District officers responded to Interstate 295 northbound prior to the Suitland Parkway exit for the report of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle on the interstate. Officers located an adult male suffering critical injuries in the roadway. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and despite all efforts, the man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene.

The preliminary investigation determined that the operator of a white 2021 Toyota 4-Runner was traveling northbound on I-295, in the right lane, when the driver saw a man standing on the solid white line between the right lane and the shoulder. The pedestrian suddenly ran into the vehicle’s lane and was struck. The driver immediately stopped, called 911 and remained on the scene.

The decedent has been identified as 27-year-old Luis Alberto Cespedes-Corrales of Dumfries, Virginia.
