Tonight in Ward 8: DC Honors Cathy Hughes with the Key to the City

Washington, DC residents are invited to celebrate a historic evening in Ward 8 as Mayor Muriel Bowser joins the Office of Cable Television, Film, Music and Entertainment (OCTFME), Urban One, and Majic 102.3 to honor media trailblazer Cathy Hughes with the Key to the City.

As the Founder and Chairwoman of Urban One, Hughes has spent decades transforming the media industry by amplifying Black voices and creating opportunities for generations of broadcasters, journalists, artists, and entrepreneurs. The ceremony recognizes her extraordinary contributions to Washington, DC, and her lasting impact on communities across the country.

Following the presentation, the celebration will continue as part of the Majic Wednesdays concert series, featuring host Vic Jagger, music by DJ Face, and live performances from District Kings and the legendary Junkyard Band.

The free community event takes place tonight, Wednesday, July 15, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Sycamore & Oak in Ward 8. Residents are encouraged to come out for an evening celebrating one of DC's most influential hometown success stories through music, culture, and community.
