Save Money on Great Food While Helping Reduce Food Waste with Too Good To Go

Over the past month, I've become a big fan of the Too Good To Go app, and I wanted to share it because I think a lot of my readers would find it useful.
I've picked up multiple Surprise Bags from Whole Foods for $10 or less, and I've been genuinely impressed with the value. My bags have included prepared meals, refrigerated foods, fresh produce, bakery items, pantry staples, dips, cheeses, and other grocery items. Every pickup has been a little different, which is part of the fun—you never know exactly what you'll get, but I've always felt like I received much more than I paid for.
One of the most sought-after options at Whole Foods is their meat and seafood Surprise Bags. I haven't been quick enough to grab one yet, but several of my friends have—and they've scored incredible deals on high-quality meat and seafood. Those bags tend to sell out almost immediately, so you'll want to keep an eye on the app if you're hoping to snag one.
I've also picked up several Surprise Bags from Tous Les Jours, and they've been fantastic. For about $9, I've walked away with large boxes filled with fresh French pastries that would have cost significantly more at regular price.
It's not just grocery stores, either. Many local restaurants, bakeries, cafés, and specialty food shops participate, offering prepared meals, baked goods, and other surplus food at steep discounts. Whether you're trying to stretch your grocery budget, feed a family, or simply enjoy discovering new places, it's a great way to save money on quality food and prepared meals.
The concept is simple. At the end of the day, participating businesses package up unsold food into "Surprise Bags" and sell them through the app for roughly a third of the original price. You reserve your bag in the app, arrive during the designated pickup window, show your reservation, swipe the in-app pickup confirmation, and the staff hands you your bag.
Beyond the savings, the app also helps reduce food waste by keeping perfectly good food out of landfills while allowing local businesses to recover some of the cost of items that might otherwise go unsold.
Too Good To Go is available in more than 30 U.S. cities—including Washington, DC—and continues to expand, with participating businesses also found across Canada, Europe, and Australia.
If you're looking for an easy way to save money, discover new restaurants and bakeries, and help reduce food waste at the same time, I highly recommend giving Too Good To Go a try. It's become one of my favorite ways to save money while supporting local businesses and reducing waste.
