Police Offer $50,000 Reward in Unsolved Double Homicide of Two DC Youths
The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is asking for the public's assistance as detectives continue to investigate the fatal shooting of two young friends in Northeast Washington.
According to investigators, 14-year-old Tyale Coates and his friend, 12-year-old Mhilo Young, were shot and killed on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, while at a food truck in the 700 block of Kenilworth Avenue, NE. The shooting occurred at approximately 3:27 p.m.
The case remains under investigation by MPD's Homicide Branch, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
MPD is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the killings.
The deaths of the two youths have left family members, friends, and community members searching for answers. Investigators hope that witnesses or individuals with knowledge of the incident will provide information that can help bring justice to the victims and their loved ones.
