Petition to Keep CVS in Penn Branch Shopping Center Open
“The Issue
CVS has been a reliable retail fixture at the Penn Branch Shopping Center for decades.
Many Ward 7 residents who shop at the store located at 3200 Pennsylvania Avenue SE, Washington, DC 20020 (Store #1335) attest to the convenience it has provided to our neighborhood. This store is a vital resource for prescriptions and also household products. This newly built, stand-alone store offers ample parking, making it a preferred and easily accessible shopping location for our many seniors and families with young children who reside in Fairlawn, Fairfax Village, Fort Davis, Fort Dupont and Dupont Park, Hillcrest, Penn Branch, Twinning and Randle Highlands neighborhoods.
The corporate decision to quietly close this store on July 9, 2025, citing low sales performance and theft, is short-sighted and disregards the needs of District residents who live along the Pennsylvania Avenue East Corridor. This action was also not included on any list of CVS closures published in the media. With no other pharmacy options available along this corridor, the closure would create a major gap in essential retail services for approximately 50,000 residents.
Our community stands united in our strong support for keeping CVS Store #1335 open and fully operational. We urge CVS Health to reconsider its decision and explore other ways to increase sales revenue and reduce theft without resorting to closure. Enhanced security measures, more community partnerships, and targeted marketing efforts could all serve as positive steps toward maintaining this beneficial retail service to our neighbors and tens of thousands of commuters who travel along Pennsylvania Avenue, East of the River (EoTR), each day.
Join us in urging CVS to recognize the significance of this store to our community. Sign this petition to help us keep the CVS at Penn Branch open and maintain access to essential retail services for the residents along Pennsylvania Avenue EoTR.”
