Oct 9 | Families Invited to Storytime and Sensory Play at ACM
The Smithsonian’s Anacostia Community Museum is bringing children and caregivers together for Big Moments, Little Stories: Storytime and Sensory Play, a family program centered on books, creativity, play and community.
Held on multiple dates at the Anacostia Community Museum, the program features cozy storytime sessions inspired by the museum’s current exhibition. Selected stories explore themes including family, neighborhoods, community, history, belonging and the fall and winter seasons.
The experience continues beyond storytime. Families can stay for indoor play, creative exploration and opportunities to spend time with other children, caregivers and neighbors.
The program is designed to accommodate different ways children may want or need to participate. Sensory toys and other tools will be available for children who benefit from tactile, movement or sensory experiences, helping create a more accessible and welcoming environment for families.
Big Moments, Little Stories is also an opportunity for families to explore how individual experiences fit into larger community histories. Through storytelling and play, children and caregivers can make connections between their own lives, their neighborhoods and the stories represented at the museum.
