MPD Officer Involved Shooting: 500 Block of Alabama Avenue, SE

Agents from the Metropolitan Police Department’s (MPD) Internal Affairs Bureau are investigating an officer involved shooting that occurred on Sunday, June 23, 2019, in the 500 block of Alabama Avenue, Southeast. 

At approximately 3:53 am, uniformed patrol officers of the Seventh District were dispatched to the area to investigate a community member’s report of a suspicious vehicle. The officers observed a vehicle fitting the description and a traffic stop was conducted. During the interaction an officer discharged their service weapon and the suspect fled the scene in his vehicle. A short time later, the suspect walked into an area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries and was subsequently placed under arrest.

On Sunday, June 23, 2019, 48 year-old Donald Willis of Southeast, DC, was arrested and charged with Assault on a Police Officer, Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device, and Fleeing from a Law Enforcement Officer in a Motor Vehicle.

No pedestrians or officers were injured during this incident. The officer involved was placed on administrative leave, pursuant to MPD policy.
