May 30 | Ward 8 Democrats to Host Democratic Primary Candidate Forum and Straw Poll

Ward 8 voters will have an opportunity to meet and speak directly with candidates seeking elected office during the Ward 8 Democrats' 2026 Democratic Primary One-On-One Candidate Forum & Straw Poll on Saturday, May 30.

The event will take place at Sycamore & Oak, with doors opening at 11:30 a.m. Voting in the straw poll will be conducted from noon until 3 p.m.

Unlike a traditional candidate forum, this event will feature a series of brief one-on-one conversations between voters and candidates, giving residents an opportunity to ask questions and hear directly from those seeking office. Organizers describe the format as similar to "musical chairs," allowing attendees to rotate through conversations with candidates running for Mayor, Delegate to Congress, Council, and other offices appearing on the Ward 8 Democratic primary ballot.

The event comes as Ward 8 residents prepare to cast their ballots in the upcoming Democratic primary election. Candidates will have an opportunity to make their closing arguments to voters, while representatives from the DC Board of Elections will be on hand to answer questions about voting and the election process.

Attendees who are previously registered Ward 8 Democratic voters will be eligible to participate in the event's straw poll. Voting will take place on participants' phones using an online ballot and will utilize Ranked Choice Voting. Assistance will be available for seniors and anyone needing help with the technology.
