Washington, DC (May 21, 2019) -- Lyft and the Brem Foundation announced today the launch of a pilot program to offer low-income cancer patients free rides in Washington, D.C. Through the pilot program, Lyft will support the Brem Foundation with $5,000 in ride credits through the Lyft Concierge platform.

“We are thrilled to announce this unique partnership with the Brem Foundation that offers support to D.C. residents in need of breast cancer screenings and procedures,” said Steve Taylor, Regional Director of Lyft Mid-Atlantic. “Early screenings are a critical tool in breast cancer awareness. By providing rides, we are continuing our mission to support the communities we serve, and are helping passengers make early detection a priority.”

When caught early, breast cancer is over 95 percent curable; however, Washington D.C. has had the highest death rate from breast cancer for over a decade. As part of the pilot program, low-income patients in Wards 7 and 8 will receive free rides to and from their screenings and diagnostic procedures. The Brem Foundation, an organization committed to maximizing women’s chances of finding curable breast cancer through expert education about early detection, access to diagnostic tests, and physician training will join the program as an implementing partner.

"Transportation is one of the greatest barriers to underserved women accessing the breast care they need and deserve. Lyft and the Brem Foundation are going to change that,” said Andrea Wolf, President and CEO of the Brem Foundation. “Through our revolutionary partnership we are creating the nation's first and only dedicated breast-screening transportation program for underserved women. We could not be more excited or proud to be changing the breast health landscape with Lyft."

The partnership between Lyft and the Brem Foundation is a significant milestone for the transportation company. This is Lyft’s first and only ongoing program offering a consistent way to help women find breast cancer earlier. Lyft’s partnership with the Brem Foundation further enhances its commitment to small businesses and nonprofits with the potential to enact widespread change through innovative programs.
