June 20: Youth Trail Riding Class at The Bridge District
Young riders looking to take their cycling skills beyond neighborhood streets and paved paths will have an opportunity to learn new techniques this month through the Washington Area Bicyclist Association's (WABA) Youth Trail Riding Basics class.
Taking place on Saturday, June 20, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Bridge District in Southeast Washington, DC, this hands-on class is designed for youth who already know how to ride a bicycle and are ready to gain confidence navigating trails and varied terrain.
Participants will learn fundamental trail-riding skills, including techniques for improving control, handling obstacles, and riding more comfortably on unpaved surfaces. The class is ideal for young cyclists who have limited trail experience, recently completed a WABA Learn to Ride course, or want to strengthen their overall biking abilities.
The three-hour session combines instruction and practice in a supportive environment, helping riders build skills they can use on trails throughout the region.
Participants must bring their own bicycle and helmet, and bicycles should be in good working order. Riders who need access to a bike may use a Capital Bikeshare bicycle, with WABA offering reimbursement for the usage fee during the class.
The class will be held at Bridge District, 633 Howard Avenue SE, across from the apartment buildings near the Anacostia Metro Station. Street parking is available nearby.
Registration is $10, and the class is free for WABA members.
