July 7 | Advisory Neighborhood Commission 8A
An Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) is the District's smallest elected local government body. Each ANC represents a specific neighborhood and gives residents a voice on local issues.
ANC commissioners advise DC agencies on topics such as:
Development and zoning
Liquor license applications
Transportation and street safety
Parks and public spaces
Neighborhood concerns
While ANCs don't make final decisions, DC agencies are required to give their recommendations "great weight,"meaning they must seriously consider them before taking action.
