A Little Bit About Us

The Homeless Children’s Playtime Project provides trauma-informed and educational play programs, as well as advocates for families living in emergency and transitional housing programs. Playtime’s programs bring joy, a therapeutic environment, and access to community resources to children and youth who are experiencing homelessness.

Position Description

The part-time Volunteer Coordinator will work collaboratively with the Volunteer Program Manager in recruiting volunteers that make a weekly commitment to our trauma-informed play programs. The Volunteer Coordinator will assist prospective volunteers in completing the screening and background check processes; lead monthly information sessions and group volunteer opportunities; support with planning volunteer appreciation and engagement events; and actively participate in the implementation of Playtime’s volunteer recruitment and retention plan. This position involves opportunities for creativity in designing and implementing volunteer systems. A level of professionalism is expected, as well as the ability to thrive in a small, fast-paced, grassroots organization undergoing growth.

The homeless epidemic in D.C. disproportionally affects the most marginalized people in society, including people of color, people from working class backgrounds, and LGBTQ people. We believe these communities must be centered in the work we do, and for this reason we strongly encourage applications from people with these identities or who are members of other marginalized communities.
