Give Hope This Holiday Season with VSC’s Adopt-a-Family Program

For ten years, Voices for Second Chance (VSC) has brought comfort, care, and hope to families impacted by incarceration through its annual Adopt-a-Family Holiday Program. The initiative pairs families in need with generous community donors who provide gifts and essential support, spreading joy during a time that can be especially difficult for parents and children rebuilding their lives.

Last year, thanks to the compassion of donors across the region, VSC provided gifts for 170 children, many of whom have a parent currently or recently incarcerated. Each donation served as a reminder that every family deserves kindness and connection during the holidays.

This year, the need is even greater — and VSC is calling on community members once again to open their hearts and help make the season brighter for local families. Individuals, businesses, and organizations are invited to “adopt” a family or make a contribution toward this year’s effort.

Those interested in participating can contact Isabelle Garcia at isabelle@vscdc.org or 202-544-2131 for more information.

“In tough times, our strength is our capacity to give and share hope with our neighbors,” said Paula Thompson, President & CEO of Voices for Second Chance. “Your continued involvement helps ensure that children affected by the justice system feel seen, supported, and loved.”

As someone who took part in the program last year, The Advoc8te can personally attest to how meaningful it is. I had the honor of adopting two children last holiday season, and it was an incredibly rewarding experience. I’ll be participating again this year and encourage others to join me in sharing the spirit of giving.

Together, we can help make the 2025 holiday season brighter for families who need it most.
