Feb 5 | Film Screening & Discussion: Paul Laurence Dunbar — Beyond the Mask
As part of ACM Beyond the Exhibition, the Anacostia Community Museum presents a special film screening and discussion in partnership with Allen Chapel AME, WETA, and The ACC.
This feature-length documentary explores the life and legacy of Paul Laurence Dunbar, the first African American poet to gain national and international recognition. Through historical context and scholar interviews, the film examines Dunbar’s literary impact, personal struggles, and enduring influence on artists and writers today.
The screening will be followed by a live Q&A with the filmmaker, Frederick Lewis.
