The MahoganyBooks  & Very Smart Brothas book club  is excited to announce that our November book is none other than Well Read Black Girl: Finding Our Stories, Discovering Ourselves written by DC home girl, Glory Edim. This recently released book grew out of the authors want to connect with other women “who lived by and for the words of black female writers.” The Well Read Black Girl phenomenon speaks to the urgency, need, and want for inclusion and representation of Black women into literature in particular, but also the larger community of non-white persons in general. From it’s days as an Instagram page started in 2015, to a highly visible online platform, and now having just concluded it’s second  literary festival, Glory Edim has put in the work to curate, honor, and build community around Black women voices in the literary space. Her anthology, showcasing some a number of sharing their personal stories of how representative literature has impacted and shaped their lives is the perfect choice for the MahoganyBooks + Very Smart Brothas November book club selection.

We invite you to stop by the store or go online to grab you copy for our upcoming book  discussion of ‘Well Read Black Girl’ on December 7, 2018 from 6 PM to 8PM at MahoganyBooks, located inside of the Anacostia Arts Center. We are also excited to announce that the author, Glory, will be joining us for the book discussion that evening. Seating is limited so we encourage you to reserve your seat now. RSVP’s will be given first priority for the event. If any seats remain, those will be given to individuals on a first come, first served basis.

If you are unable to join us in store for the book discussion, we encourage you to join us online in our Facebook Group where we will be live streaming the December 7th discussion.
