DACL Nutrition Programs Help DC Seniors and Adults with Disabilities Stay Healthy
Eating well is an important part of maintaining good health, and the DC Department of Aging and Community Living (DACL) offers a variety of nutrition programs to help older adults and adults with disabilities access healthy, nutritious meals and nutrition education.
DACL's nutrition services are available to adults age 60 and older, as well as eligible adults with disabilities, and include community dining, home-delivered meals, nutrition counseling, and nutrition education.
Community Dining Sites
DACL operates more than 40 community dining sites across all eight wards of Washington, DC, where eligible residents can enjoy nutritious meals while connecting with others in their community. Go here to download the full list.
Home-Delivered Meals
For adults who are homebound, DACL provides prepared meals delivered directly to their homes. Eligible spouses of homebound older adults or disabled individuals living in the same household may also qualify to receive meals.
Nutrition Counseling and Education
Residents can also receive one-on-one nutrition counseling from a registered dietitian or other qualified health professional. These services are designed for individuals who may be at nutritional risk due to chronic health conditions, medications, or dietary concerns.
In addition, DACL offers nutrition education programs that promote healthy eating, physical activity, and overall wellness through culturally sensitive instruction for both participants and caregivers.
Food4Choice Pilot Update
DACL also announced that its Food4Choice Pilot Program has reached maximum capacity and is no longer accepting new participants. The agency says it will continue evaluating the program throughout the fiscal year with the hope of expanding it in the future.
