Cool Off This Summer at DC's Outdoor Pools
Summer is officially pool season in the District, and outdoor pools operated by the DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) are now open on their regular summer schedules.
All DPR outdoor pools are free for DC residents, making them a great way to beat the heat, stay active, and enjoy time with family and friends throughout the summer. Non-DC residents may purchase either a daily pass or a seasonal pass to access outdoor pool facilities.
Visitors should be aware that pools reaching maximum capacity will operate under a "one in, one out" policy. Arriving early is recommended, especially during periods of extreme heat and on weekends.
DPR pools remain open during rain as long as lifeguards can clearly see the bottom of the pool. However, pools close immediately at the first sign of lightning. If a pool must close due to maintenance or another operational issue, DPR's SPLASH system provides real-time status updates.
All DPR pools are ADA accessible. Residents seeking enhanced accessibility features and zero-entry access may want to visit Banneker Children's Pool, Francis Pool, Hearst Pool, Upshur Children's Pool, Harry Thomas Children's Pool, Langdon Pool, Randall Pool, Woody Ward Children's Pool, Kenilworth Pool, Ridge Road Pool, Rosedale Pool, Douglas Pool, Fort Stanton Pool, or Oxon Run Pool.
Outdoor pools will remain open throughout the summer, with seasonal closures beginning in August and the final locations remaining open through Labor Day weekend.
Whether you're looking to cool off after work, spend a day with the kids, or simply enjoy the outdoors, DPR's pool system offers a free and accessible way for District residents to make the most of summer.
