Before It's Auctioned: See if MPD Recovered Your Lost/Stolen Property
Every year, the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) recovers hundreds of stolen and abandoned bicycles, as well as hundreds of lost and found electronic devices such as cell phones and cameras. If you've ever had a bike or electronic device go missing, now is a good time to see if it has been recovered.
MPD's Evidence Control Branch inventories all recovered property. Items that remain unclaimed for 90 days after they are recovered are considered abandoned. Before recovered bicycles are auctioned or donated, MPD posts photos online to give owners an opportunity to identify and claim them.
Residents can also view photos of recovered cell phones and cameras, along with notices regarding property scheduled for disposal.
If you recognize your property, don't wait. Once the designated claim period has passed, unclaimed items may be auctioned through GovDeals or donated.
