In honor of Breastfeeding Month and Black Breastfeeding Week, Mamatoto Village is hosting Breastfeeding 101: Family Edition—a community-centered, family-friendly event designed to empower and support families. The gathering welcomes expecting and new parents, grandparents, and caregivers eager to deepen their understanding of breastfeeding and learn how to provide meaningful support.
Set against the backdrop of the beautifully restored Capitol Turnaround, the event will be led by a team of IBCLCs, Certified Lactation Specialists, and Health and Wellness staff. Families will engage in interactive learning stations and hands-on opportunities covering topics such as:
The fundamentals of breastfeeding
Positioning and latching
Confidently overcoming common challenges
Nutrition while breastfeeding
Effective use of breastfeeding accessories
Pumping and bottle-feeding basics
Weaning strategies
How partners, grandparents, and caregivers can champion breastfeeding
Culturally affirming approaches to infant feeding and wellness
Attendees will also enjoy:
Light refreshments
Giveaways, raffles, and community resources
A joyful space to learn, connect, and ask questions
Please note: there is no dedicated onsite childcare. A playroom will be available, but children must remain with their caregivers at all times. Children over one year old will require their own ticket.
