Aniqua Kristinia Mills, Charged in Homicide of Son, Jacari Mills, 11 months

The Metropolitan Police Department announces that an arrest has been made in the homicide of an infant.

On August 2, 2025, at approximately 1:37 p.m., Fifth District officers responded to the 1500 block of F Street, Northeast, for the report of an unconscious child. Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive male infant. DC Fire and EMS transported the infant to an area hospital, where, on August 10, 2025, after all life-saving efforts failed, he was pronounced dead.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the cause of death to be blunt force trauma and the manner of death to be homicide.

The victim has been identified as 11-month-old Jacari Mills, of Northeast.

On June 11, 2026, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, members of the Capitol Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested 32-year-old Aniqua Kristinia Mills, of Newport News, VA. On June 26, 2026, Mills, the mother of the decedent, was extradited to DC and charged with First Degree Murder—Felony Murderand First Degree Cruelty to Children.
