About the Citizens Advisory Council (CAC)
The Citizens Advisory Council (CAC) serves as a bridge between the community and the police in each district. Acting as an advisory panel, the CAC offers district commanders valuable insight and recommendations on local safety concerns and police service needs. Regularly scheduled CAC meetings give residents a chance to meet with the commander, raise questions, and discuss public safety issues. These meetings also allow police officials to hear directly from the community and evaluate how their crime-prevention strategies are working on the ground.
Beyond the individual districts, the Chief of Police’s Citizens Advisory Council provides department-wide input. This body is made up of the elected chairs from each district’s CAC along with At-Large members who represent diverse communities and interests across the District. While At-Large members are appointed by the Chief of Police, CAC chairs are chosen by residents who participate in their district meetings.
