When life gives you lemons...make community lemonade!

This week I decided to set up a little lemonade stand at THEARC as part of our weekly Arcadia Mobile Market visit. It's surprisingly easy to create a little sense of community with a table and chairs, some free lemonade and cookies. It was such a great way to spend an afternoon and connect with the wonderful people that make our community so special!

It got me to thinking about how we can all create social opportunities in our community and the creative ways we can get people to the table. In a ward that has few dining and entertainment options how do people meet? How do people connect?

Sometimes we have to think of creative ways to bring people to the table. It's not always about gift cards and surveys, sometimes it is just about communing with another person and relating to them on a human level. Some of my best interactions with my neighbors and friends have been when there isn't an objective or an agenda. Just simple conversation, one-on-one.

And maybe that is how it should be.

P.S. If you are around THEARC next Wednesday from 12-2pm stop by for a free glass of lemonade and a cookie and a chat! Better still bring your lunch or your laptop and spend a few hours on our plaza. There is always room for one more! The Arcadia Mobile Market will also be there! Even more reason to stop by!
