BREAKING NEWS: Ward 8 Democrats vote to remove Jacque Patterson as President of Ward 8 Democrats. No Confidence vote scheduled for March 20th
The word on the street and on the DC State Committee listserve is that last night the Ward 8 Democrats Executive Committee voted 8 to 1 to remove Jacque Patterson as President of the Ward 8 Democrats. Reports indicate that the "straw that broke the camel’s back" was that the Ward 8 Democrats Executive Committee took major offense with Mr. Patterson giving an interview to the media regarding the Barry earmark scandal before an official statement was released by the Ward 8 Democrats. Such a statement on Marion Barry's actions still has not been released by the Ward 8 Democrats at this time.
Unless Mr. Patterson agrees to resign (and right now all signs point to "no") a "no confidence" vote will be held on March 20th.
Not to say "I told you so" but "I told you so" - this is why I don't attend Ward 8 Dems meetings. No idea on how this shake-up in leadership will affect the Ward 8 Democratsnot taking a position on the Bennett report findings, but odds are that Barry isn't off crying about this latest shakeup in leadership; and what is sure to be a delay in the Ward 8 Dems issuing sanctions or suggesting a recall against the Councilmember.
Just my 2 cents - not that anyone is asking - but if the Ward 8 Dems want to really effect some change and be considered the political "heavy hitters" in Ward 8 that they should be, they need to seriously - and I mean seriously - consider recruiting some new blood STAT to take leadership positions. Folks are sick and tired of seeing the same old faces fight amongst each other and jockey for the next "Big Chief" position. If this is not a reflection of the dysfunction in Ward 8 politics I don't know what is.
Heaven help us all.
