๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Happy Labor Day, Ward 7 & Ward 8!

Today, Congress Heights on the Rise (CHotR) is taking a moment to celebrate the people who work every day to keep Ward 7, Ward 8, and the District moving forward.

Labor Day may mean a three-day weekend, the unofficial end of summer, cookouts, and a chance to sleep in for some of us. But at its heart, the holiday is about recognizing the contributions of working people โ€” and there are plenty of them to celebrate east of the river.

Weโ€™re talking about our teachers and school staff, healthcare workers, first responders, government employees, nonprofit teams, construction workers, hospitality and restaurant workers, retail employees, childcare providers, caregivers, entrepreneurs, small business owners, and countless others who show up and get the job done every day.

And we know that Labor Day isnโ€™t a day off for everyone.

Some of our neighbors are working today. Some of our small business owners are opening their doors and hoping for a busy holiday. Some are working behind the scenes in jobs that donโ€™t stop just because itโ€™s a federal holiday.

We see you, too.

If you do have the day off, we hope you get a chance to rest, spend time with people you care about, enjoy a cookout, catch up on absolutely nothing โ€” whatever a good day off looks like to you.

And if youโ€™re heading out today, consider keeping some of those Labor Day dollars right here in Ward 7 and Ward 8. Grab a meal from a neighborhood restaurant, stop by a local shop, pick up something from a small business, or support one of our local entrepreneurs.

Our communities are powered by people โ€” and today is a good day to celebrate them.
