The MLK Holiday DC Student Essay Contest is open!
The essay contest is open to Elementary (4th & 5th grade), Middle (6th – 8th grade), and High (9th – 12th) School students. This year’s overall theme for the Holiday Events is "Change Happens with Good Hope & A Dream” The essay topic poses the question- Is voting the vehicle for effective change?
In your essay, speak to the above question and include your hopes and dreams for voting, if you agree that voting is the vehicle for effective change. If you do not agree, share an alternative vehicle for effective change. Feel free to explore issues like poverty, gun violence, etc. when looking at voting as a vehicle for change.
There will be three (3) prize winners for each division that includes a cash prize.
*Elementary Division (4th & 5th grades) 250 - 500 words, *Middle Division (6th – 8th grades) 500 - 700 words, *High School Division (9th – 12th grades) 700 - 1,000 words

The deadline for essay submission is Friday, January 7, 2022.
