Brief Description: Work closely with children ages 5-10 at UPO’s Children’s Defense Fund Freedom Schools summer site; The camp counselor will serve and also be titled a Servant Leader Intern as designated by the Children’s Defense Fund. Primary responsibilities will be to implement academic enrichment, recreation, and social activities to youth participating at the summer site; Developing and administering daily lesson plans; Preparing classroom of work area for daily camp operation; Tracking and monitoring participant progress; Ensuring camp safety compliance; Accompanying participants on field trip activities; Executing all assigned administrative tasks such as daily sign-in/out sheet.
Minimum Qualifications: Must be 19-30 years of age; have completed as least one year of college and have plans to complete the college degree; must maintain or have graduated with at least a 2.5 GPA. Must have prior experience working with youth in a classroom or camp setting along with a demonstrated ability to execute a curriculum; must possess strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
Must be available to travel and attend mandatory training June 5, 2011 – June 12, 2011.
Other Requirements: In the event that an offer is extended, the candidate will be required to successfully complete a criminal background check and/or FBI Fingerprinting, pre-employment physical examination and drug screening as applicable for the position.
Note: Job offer is contingent upon receipt of Grant if chosen for this position.
This position IS NOT in the collective bargaining unit.
