Wunderkind needed for gourmet market on Capitol Hill. While a foodie background is not needed (but of course appreciated) a genuine desire to learn the story and sell the story behind our delicious foodstuffs is essential. We carry a wide range of items that fall under a broad swath of categories: sustainable, local, imported, vaunted, heralded -- all of it specifically chosen for our store.
Our needs are unique so the right candidate will be unique too. Are you intellectually curious about the epicurean arts? We will expose you to a number of disciplines that will make you the envy of your foodie friends. Our cheese selection is dynamic, our wine and beer offerings impeccable, our imported items mesmerizing, and that's just scratching the surface. We want you to help sell these items to our customers. We want you to be as excited about them as we are. Why? Because we'll expect you to research, post on facebook and tweet. . .for our store of course, not on your own personal account(s). It's a given in this modern era you know how to google, fb, and tweet - let alone use Microsoft word and excel.
We want a charming, engaging and well-spoken individual capable of connecting with people who love talking food. (Yes, we think this person really does exist.)
We offer the right candidate a solid compensation package but expect a hard-working individual who isn't afraid to get their hands dirty. We do more than taste wines, sample cheeses and gobble up chocolates. We also break down boxes, take out the trash and wash dishes. Yep, you'll have to do that too - a lot of it.
Applicants who forward resumes without a cover letter are immediately deleted. If we're expecting you tell the story behind our products, it goes without saying we would like to know a brief bit about your story, passions, and what you think you can bring to the P&C Market team. When emailing your resume and cover letter, please write a description as to why you're interested in working with us. Hint, this counts as our "first impression" of you. Additionally, please submit a link to any website or blog you have written/done video work for (it does not have to be food related).
If you've made it this far then the rest is fine print. This job requires an ABRA Manager's License as well as a Food Handlers License. We can help you get these but your employment with us is contingent upon having them when you start.
References required. Background check mandatory.
Pay: $34k/annual (contingent on ABRA/Food Handlers)
