I've been busting at the seams for weeks and finally I can share this exciting news!

COMING SPRING 2013: THE ANACOSTIA ART CENTER!

Aaron Wiener of Housing Complex covers our plans at ARCH Development Corporation to transform the ground floor of 1231 & 1235 Good Hope Rd SE into an arts, culture, and wellness center. When complete, the nearly 10,000 square Anacostia Arts Center will feature art galleries, retail, yoga, a black box theater and a coffee bar! The new space will also be open evenings and weekends!

Demolition is already underway at the new space. The Anacostia Art Center is expected to launch Spring 2013. ARCH is currently accepting leasing proposals for space at the arts center and is actively seeking an operator for the coffee bar & cafe. Interested parties should call (202) 536.8994 or send an email to nikki@respindc.com. This is a great opportunity to bring more amneties, commerce and entertainment  east of the river.

To recap, the neighborhood is currently home to the following arts and culture attractions:

Anacostia Art Gallery
Smithsonian Anacostia Community Museum
American Muslim Heritage Museum
Honfleur Gallery
The Gallery at Vivid Solutions
Blank Space SE
Vivid Solutions Archival Print Lab
LUMEN8ANACOSTIA
Anacostia Playhouse -- coming Spring 2013!

In addition, ADC is currently accepting membership applications for co-working space in its two small business incubators: The HIVE (2027 MLK) and The HIVE 2.0 (1231-B Good Hope Rd SE). ARCH believes in the creative economy. Arts, culture, and theater groups who take office space at The HIVE or The HIVE 2.0 by 3/15/13 receive 15% off!

P.S. ARCH will be presenting tonight at the Historic Anacostia Block Association meeting tonight at 7pm at the UPO Anacostia Center. Come out and hear about our projects for 2013 and give us your feedback.
