P.S. To the unknown person with the horrendous dragon breath, please don't take this personally but for the sake of nostrils everywhere, please invest in some Altoids. After five minutes I was praying that my sense of smell would be gentrified.

It's no secret, economic or ethnic gentrification will be the death of Marion Barry's reign in Ward 8.
H St business owners were there in full force and we informed Anacostia about the horrors we, as minority business owners, have faced at the hands of some Councilmembers and their agenda to expedite gentrification.
Case in point, the Deputy Mayor's office (DMPED) just announced the availability of up to $85,000 (per person) in grant dollars to fund an individual start-up, retail business on H St NE. This grant program is called the H St Retail Incentive Program and is sponsored by Councilman Tommy Wells.
The grant explicitly BANS Barbershops and Beauty Salons from applying, but NOT the Nail Salon. Mind you, all of the Barbershops and Beauty Salons on H St are Black owned businesses.
Of course, DMPED neither told H St NE minority businesses about the grant nor the Q & A meeting they held on Sept 21, 2011. DMPED is only disclosing grant information to an exclusive group of people, but the program is open to everyone, and you are not required to currently own a business on H St NE.
Here's link to DMPED website for more info (see bottom rigt-side of the page) http://dmped.dc.gov/DC/DMPED:
