Last night I shot a deer and I'm happy I did it.

It took me TWO YEARS  but I finally shot a Congress Heights deer...on video. I've seen this particular buck (who coincidently I have named Buck) at least twice a week for the past few months and either I don't have my camera or he runs away before I can get off a shot. I swear that deer was taunting me but in the end the smarter animal (I think) won. I finally captured him with my trusty digital camera late last night. To be honest, I  did just about everything but hide in the damn bushes but I got him.  I really shouldn't be this excited about surveillance on a deer but I can't help it.  Congress Heights deer are hella sneaky.

I'm queen of the world! Today sneaky deer. Tomorrow bashful badgers.

P.S. No deer were harmed in the making of this film. I may even bring the deer an apple next time. Deer eat apples right?

Lucky my family didn't see it. They would have smoke his hindparts for dinner (my family is from Louisiana... if it had a mother, they'll find a way to cook it)

They are often on the ramp to 295 at Malcolm X. I also saw one when I was on 13th and Southern Ave. It was standing right behind me and I didn't notice a first. It's like being in the country but still in the city.

Exactly! That is one of the great things about living in Ward 8 that you don't hear about. The local wildlife. Someone just told me they saw a real live turkey cross Malcolm X avenue to go into the woods by 295.

Yeah, S.E. deer are stealth deer. I tease a friend who sees them all the time about them being his imaginary deer friends. They hang out over in the wooded area across from the homes near Ft Greble too overlooking 295. One day my daughter and I saw two baby deer playing in the woods along Mississippi across from Green Elementary. Have also seen a fox or two on Mississippi.

I have a fox in the neighborhood too! That will be my next mission getting the fox on camera.
