Spoken last night by ANC Commissioner Cardell Shelton at last night's disastrous ANC 8C meeting. That was only one of the many, many insane things that was said and done at last night's meeting.
More to come in my official write up including a shouting match between William Lockridge of the State Board of Education and Commissioner Shelton, Commissioner Mary Cuthbert's continued campaign of harassment toward residents she doesn't like (this time in the form of illicit camera phone picture taking) although this time she really did outdo herself by declaring in the meeting "the ANC meeting is not for you [the community] - it is for us the commissioners so we don't need to hear community concerns". Commissioner William Ellis continued his excellent impersonation of a seeing eye poodle while the very frail Commissioner Calvin Lockridge made his first ANC 8C appearance for 2009. Commissioner Dion Jordan was the only one that even looked remotely capable and who was the only one who managed to avoid sending me into a "shame spiral" but with that motley crew of ANC Commissioners running things (into the ground) it is no wonder that ANC 8C IS OFFICIALLY THE WORST ANC IN THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
In your wildest booze filled nightmares you couldn't make this stuff up it was so bad.
All in all it was a pointless, discouraging, unbelievably bad meeting.
(un)Lucky for you I have the tape which I will post later today along with my write up.
May God have mercy on us poor residents. :(
P.S. Black people ARE just as capable, intelligent, driven and talented as white people. We have proven time and time again how intelligent we are. There is no need to "dumb it down" for us. Not only can we as people of color keep up but we have set the pace in so many things. It is so very sad to see a person of color repeatedly (and I mean repeatedly) imply that people of color can only hope for the a job sweeping up after a construction site or hoisting a wheelbarrow. We can do that and so much more. President Obama is a shining example of how far we have come. So Commissioner Shelton I will have to respectfully DISAGREE with you on that statement!
UPDATE AS OF 12:39am:
Just reviewed the audio tape of the meeting and Commissioner Shelton's exact quote was "Black Folks don't learn like White folks". Wanted to make sure it was exact. Still trying to post the audio of the meeting.

That was my first cameo appearance at one of the ANC meetings and it won't be my last. However, it is a shame that this ANC represents the eptiome of chaos. Not only is there no structure to how things are handled there is a tremendous lack of tack. How could you possibly expect someone to take your grievences serious if you show a lack of respect for that persons opinions or continuously interrupt him/her when they are giving out useful information. Realize that these people are invited guest and have taken the time out of their day to come see you. You may not always agree but there is a way to refute the opposition in a respectful manner.
Also, there were many people there arguing about the kids this and the kids that but I saw no kids in the room. If you want things for the kids to get involved in how about making them come to something that benefits them (like an ANC meeting).
Too much to say too little time....
You said it!!! This has got to stop! It IS going to stop!
In my opinion the short version of the 5 commissioners.
2 Commissioners are just past their prime and need to resign or be removed.
1 Commissioners is just plain mean and destructive.
1 Commissioner knows there is a problem and knows that there needs to be a change or is just to weak or to dillusional to do the right thing. He talks about it but isn't prepared to put himself out there.
1 Commissioner is aware of the problems and is working to initiate change so that is a plus.
Ok, so last night I had to beg to ask why community concerns weren't being heard at the meetings. Mary Cuthbert's response (as shown in your blog): "the ANC meeting is not for you [the community] - it is for us the commissioners so we don't need to hear community concerns".
I did a little research and I found this in a letter addressed to MARY CUTHBERT in response to her COMPLAINT that the chairman of ANC 8C is refusing to hear community concerns. In a letter dated March 7, 2003 written by the Legal Counsel Division for Govt Operations, Arabella W. Teal explains, "the statute governing Advisory Neighborhood Commissions provides guidance. Specifically, section 14 of the Advisory Neighborhood Commissions Act of 1975, effective October 10, 1975, D.C. Law 1-21, as amended by the Comprehensive Advisory Neighborhood Commissions Reform Amendment Act of 2000 effective July 27, 2000, D.C. Law 13-135, 3(d), D.C. Official Code, 2001 Ed. 1-309.11, and provides as follows:
Each commission shall set aside a portion of each public meeting to hear the views of residents within the commission area and other affected persons on problems or issues of concern within the Commission area and on proposed District government actions that affect the Commission area. Community views should be adequately considered in positions taken by the Commission....
Section VIII of Article V, entitled "Meetings," states as follows: Section VIII: Citizen Input: Residents views should be incorporated in positions taken by the Commission. ... The Commission shall make a good-faith effort to involve all segments of the Commission's population in its deliberations regardless of race, sex, age, voting, status, religiion, or economic status."
Hmm, seems as though Ms. Cuthbert needs a little reminding as "the chair" of 8C who's interests she actually represents.
Exactly!!! It's obvious she is a hypocrite. Last night was just another example of why she needs to be removed (most likely to a jail cell).
I really wish that we could all work together but it is evident that she doesn't want to work together. She keeps letting her insecurity get in the way.
hhhmmm..so black people do not learn like White people? Have they heard of brown vs the board of education? What a dinosaur. I can not believe this type of ignorance has not died out yet. Good thing I missed the meeting. I can't take it anymore. Death to all ANC's. Waste of money.
these people need to be tarred and feathered.
I have the tar and the feathers but to hear Cardell Shelton tell it I wouldn't know how to do it.
Insanity.
Still trying to post the audio recording for this meeting - it's like Imeen doesn't even want this horrible meeting posted on it's servers lol!
